Launched through Carle Consulting in 2023, UniversityRetirementCommunities.com
established the first directory and information resource for nearly 100 University Retirement Communities nationwide. In 2024, it launched the first URC Certification Program recognizing communities offering the highest level of programmatic, operational, and cultural integration with a host academic institution. The program has been nationally recognized for bringing structure and definition to the rapidly growing University Retirement Community (URC) sector across 5-criteria and standards representing long term URC success, including: 1. Proximity to the host academic institution: To ensure easy access to both the community and campus environment for residents, students, faculty, and staff 2. A continuum of services, including up to Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing care, allowing residents, spouses or partners, to remain in the community as service and care level needs increase 3. Formalized programming between the community and the academic institution, defining resident-to-university benefits and access, and student-to-commmunity structuring of internship, employment, volunteering, and related opportunities 4. A formal relationship between the community and the academic institution, such as a land lease, licensing agreement, contract medical or other health related services, or other business relationship(s) establishing a mutual interest in the long term success of the community 5. A resident population that includes a least a 10% mix of academic institution alums, retired faculty or staff, establishing the university culture as a component of community life Based the above, University Retirement Communities can attain "Certified" status by documenting the level at which they meet the criteria and related standards of up to 100 points in value. |
